Govt clarifies on resumption of fertilizer subsidy to GSFC

Government on Saturday denied any inconsistency in its decision to resume fertilizer subsidy to Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation (GSFC), terming the reports as containing an “erroneous representation of facts”, said that the subsidy was released in line with the orders of Delhi High Court. There have been reports in some sections of the media alleging inconsistency in Government’s decision to resume the Fertilizer Subsidy to Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation, which was termed erroneous by the Government.
The government has said that the subsidy on Ammonium Sulphate to GSFC was stopped in 2013 as it was not being passed on to farmers. It has also stated that the company had failed to provide data supporting the claim that the subsidy was benefitting farmers through cheaper prices. Fertilizers Industry Coordination Committee found that Rs. 33.78 Crore has to be recovered from the company for not passing on the subsidy benefits during 2010-11. The matter of release of subsidy from 2013 to 2017 is still under examination.
